Akard Elementary (Kindergarten through 5th Grades) was built in 1963 and has a floor area of
3534 m². Project was accomplished in 2001-2002 under a performance contract. The aim was to improve the energy efficiency of the existing
building while improving the overall qualilty of the environment and reduce energy consumption over current levels.
Retrofit features:
Replacement of old fluorescent T-12 fixtures with premium quality T8 lamps and electronic ballasts.
Replace all existing incandescent exit signs with LED type; incandescent lamps with compact fluorescents.
Replacement of 40 windows with Low-E double glazed windows - 537 m².
Install Energy Management Systems with controls on HVAC equipment.
Replacement of Coal Boilers with High-Efficiency Gas fired boiler and hot water heaters.
Upgrading of plumbing fixtures; Install new air conditioning system.
